The pain and sadness is still very much felt, as if it just happened yesterday.
Haih, miss having him around... whether it's talking about sports with him, or work... even if he nag...
Wished he was around (w/o the pain of cancer of course)

Well, glad though, that's all's well at home thus far
At least we (I) tried too maintain that...

Past few days... memories of Pa lingers.. more vividly than ever... Can't believe it has been a little over 6 months...

* I see his face
* I hear his voice (always stern but caring tone)
* I miss him waiting for me to come home late at night (esp when I'm returning from overseas / outstation biz trip)
* I even hear (in my head) and miss his scoldings or nagging (read concerns)...

Was going through the SMSs sent by me to Pa on my good old Sony Ericsson phone, usually to inform him of my whereabouts...

Though he hardly replies (coz me parents don't really know how to text but stick to good-old, phone is for calling principles), I know he reads them and take note.

God, I really couldn't fathom why you take my Mr DIY & Always-Dependable Pa away from us so soon...
It was his time to retire, rest and relax but he hardly got the chance...
I wished you would give him more time...And I wished for many things more...
Then again, I will never know (and sometimes totally don't understand) what You had planned ahead for us...

Travelogue: Sipadan-Mabul (A Must Go)

A diver I am not,
A swimmer I am not too,
But boy do I love water sports and activities..
And it ain't gonna stop me from exploring the (under)water world!
And these include water themeparks, to beaches, rivers, waterfalls and of course, islands!

And you know what, Malaysia are blessed with all. So jump at every opportunity please... believe me when I say, Malaysian islands are some, if not all, of the most beautiful islands in the world. Top in Malaysia's list is of course Pulau Sipadan, Sabah.

Sipadan is located at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin, the centre of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. More than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem. Sipadan has been rated by many dive journals as one of the top dive destinations in the world

Last year I had the biggest and most privileged opportunity to join my diving-able friends, Su-Lyn & Shino on their plan to visit Pulau Sipadan! I jumped at it though the cost 'shocked' me initially.. .Well, I wasn't a diver (yet), and to spend near to RM 1k++ (special promotion somemore) just for the stay & snorkelling activities... isn't that a bit too much? I ask myself again and again... Anyway, since the flight tickets have already been booked, I move forward. Afterall, I have bout ~0.5 year to save up $$ for the year end trip! The conclusion: I DIDN'T REGRET ONE BIT.

Spring cleaning in office
Moved to a new workstation - my 2nd time shifting from one place to another. Each time gets better (bigger space, more privacy) so ain't complaining :p

Also had earlier 'reunion dinner' prayers for Pa. And these are some of the dishes!

Decided as a family to do away with the traditional Hainan Chicken Rice, Fish Maw Soup and Mixed Vege and the likes (actually we've done it a day before :p), so we've gone Western this year! Probably to commemorate my late Pa's profession as a Western Chef all these years =)
We had Chicken Chop, Seasoned & Boiled Broccoli & Asparagus with 2 slices of Tomatoes and best of all, Real Potato Wedges / Fries (non of those flour things). Yum Yum!

Headed to the old KTM train station as soon as dinner's finished, to catch the 8pm bus to Penang. Double decker. Super high-tech bus from Plusliner. Smooth journey =) Congestion-free.

Arrived in Penang before 1am. Aunt Bonnie, cousin Hikaru came to pick us up from the Sg Nibong Bus Station! Aww, so touched. Coz Grandma came along, at this hour!
Main activity while in Penang: Eat at every house / stop. LOL. Our relatives couldn't stop stuffing us silly. Home cooked ones, steamboat, roti bom, chapatti, curry, soup here, soup there (the most famous soup found this trip --> Pig Stomach Black Pepper Soup)
While food is aplenty, of course ang pow has significantly decreased. Boohoo :( It's the age I tell u!! Have to get used to it... Haha.

Depression & Suicidal Thoughts - How To Survive Them?

Initially, I was to blog on the "Chronicles of My Lunar New Year".
However, another issue caught my eye more... what more with the rise in the occurrence in recent times and seen / heard everywhere - it's in the papers, it's on the tv, it's everywhere that I go ~Bieber J, 2011, Pray (LOL).

Ok, Justin Bieber aside, let's focus on the serious side of this.

What is one to do in the face of adversities?

Be depressed - checked
Have suicidal thoughts - checked
Fight it - checked
Survived it - checked

I've been there, done it all... Scary? Sad? Yes but true.
Not gonna talk on behalf of anyone else, but myself. My personal encounters with these 'devils' in my mind - negativity, pessimism, self-blaming, self-destruction... and of course, real life dramas and down times, personal struggles / expectations and... death(s) in the family. It really is too much to handle sometimes... what more in my short 25 years.

I was raised to be strong, to be independent, to be self-sufficient, to not show weakness easily, to set goals, to meet expectations and perform to my best which, while I'm all and REALLY thankful to my wonderful parents and family for this kind of upbringing, sometimes... I admit, I do feel trapped... especially with the thought, of the need to be perfect at all times... even when it's not required.

Those who know me well enough will know... From time to time, I can't help but be all down, emo, negative and that's when I tend to ask myself these questions...

Why...?

do I have to be or at least appear strong when all I want to do is cry?
can't I be weak?
can't I be helpless for once?
do I have to keep it all inside?
can't I speak my mind, even if it may hurt others' feeling or have adverse reaction?
do I have to please everyone BUT myself?
do I even exist in this world? is there a purpose for my living? does my presence even matters?

Will I be looked down upon if I crumble?
Will people just pass it off as petty or a mean of seeking attention? An annoyance?
Can I ask for help?
Am I worthy of help from others?
Will others willingly listen / respond to my call for help?
Who do I even turn to?

After going through so much in life... honestly, deep down I know...
Practically this is all mainly me... not somebody else...
Not my parents, not my family, not my friends...
Maybe sometimes, but definitely not always...
The truth is, I am MY worst critic and enemy

Anyway... what I'm trying to say in this post is...
No matter how strong one person is / can be, at the end of the day, I came to realize, we are all the same... JUST HUMAN
We have the same basic wants and needs...
There's a need for love
There's a need for care
There's a need for pillars of support - morally, physically
There's a need to be perfect
But there's also a need to be imperfect and just LIVE
And of course, there are times when we get so weak, we need help, and we MUST SEEK HELP...

So, try not to feel worthless...
Remember, if there's a will, there will always be a way...
And most importantly, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SEEK FOR HELP... especially when you know you need help. I am for one, a person that's scared to "lose face", but I did just that, seek help when I needed it. Else, I would have been long gone...

How To Seek Help?
These may or may not work for you, but just do what you think it's best to save you (albeit temporarily) in the situation you're in...
* cry out loud
* cry silently
* talk to other people, share... (even if you think no one's interested or care enough to listen, just let it out first)
* write (journal, diary, blog, twitter, facebook, etc)
* scream / shout
* sing
* exercise
* bashing (use la pillows, sandbags, etc, or whoever that volunteer to be a human punching bag.. HAHA)

When I care about something or someone, I get focused, probably too focused sometimes...
Hmm... To a point I probably become possessive (no, not obsessive)... Most of the time, this will only be misunderstood

Things, people... sad but true, they do come and go...
They can come and leave anytime, yes, even against my will
After all, I'm not irreplaceable...
And probably have already been replaced...

Learning to let go has been my biggest challenge
Especially when I know I have put in so much
Never should I expect any returns I guess... Not anymore
We can only be as sincere as possible... And I shall and will

Glad we managed to give him a little birthday do (though nothing fancy) this year.. before Pa leave us forever on November 15th.

The wake services, the cremation...

Last Sunday... on Boxing Day... I went over to Nilai Memorial Park again, this time with my sis, bro and aunt to check on the carvings / engravings on the tomb stone. Am glad that everything was done nicely - no errors and it was installed without any hiccups. This is important to ensure that the prayers on the 49th Day since my dad's passing can be carried out and executed smoothly. Had a simple prayer session to end the day...

Date of birth - Followed Grandma's Record instead of what's stated on Pa's IC

Took some photos of the surroundings. It's a nice place. I think Pa will love it very much. He always has a thing for gardens, kois and koi ponds :) Glad we chose the right place... It will remind him / make him feel at home too - the garden at home, the kois and koi pond at home though the ones at our home of 25++ years pale in comparison to the one at the memorial park.

Aspirin Poisoning / Allergy

Aspirin (aka acetylsalicylic acid) is a drug, often used as an analgesic to relieve minor aches and pains, as an antipyretic to reduce fever and as an anti-inflammatory medication. There are many more medical proven uses of the aspirin but today I'm here to talk about aspirin poisoning / allergy - something that I suffers from and would like to keep tab on / put a record on this blog for my own reference.

Melaka, 2007 (previous blog entry HERE) - First encounter with such scenario. Was having a foodie trip with my friends from MBSSKL. By the last night of the trip, I was feeling feverish and have stomach discomforts. A friend passed me two Alka Seltzer to relieve me off those symptoms. I took one tablet. I was also 'prescribed' Ban Kah Chai pills from a local pharmacy to treat my stomach discomforts. Next thing I know, within that one hour, my eyes started to itch and teared which resulted in excessive rubbing of my eyes. Went to look at the mirror and shoots, got the shock of my life! My eyes swell to such a size, it looked like this:

First suspected culprit (allergen): Ban Kah Chai pills as I have not consumed it before.

And I was wrong... it was Alka Seltzer - the aspirin-containing medication!
How I found out this for sure?? 'Coz I 'kena' a few more times after this incident :S

I am officially allergic to aspirin.

Latest incident - Home, 17th December 2010

I was having fever on the night of 16th Dec. "Fatt lang, fatt yit", i ended up wearing a long trackbottom and a jacket on top of my T-shirt and shorts to sleep. Had socks too! Decided to pop some meds to help fasten the process of "forcing sweat out" so that my temperature will decrease.

So what causes the above? Yes, it's aspirin again! And no, I did not purposely go take them. My mom/sister bought the wrong medication and kept it in the fridge. The only thing that crossed my mind that night at almost midnight was, "hmm, maybe new packaging"... little did I know, that was the wrong medication and it contain 600 mg of ASPIRIN instead of the usual paracetamol (the other packaging one) that I take since young.

p/s: They (mom/sis) didn't realize it either and too thought it was new packaging.

17O: The ending of a beautiful journey... ended with a beautiful note. Little did I know, I was so silly for hoping for just a little bit more and was in for an ugly shock. One of the lowest moments of my life since then... Just wished things would get better soon. I want it to be. But if i'm the only one fighting, what's the use? I sure hope I'm not alone... but it seems to be so... the call is not in my hand...

17N: The departure of someone close had become a reality... no matter what i do, what i think, i can't change the reality that it has happened... at least the suffering ended. Hope it's a beautiful life-after.

17D: Wished it would be better but i guess luck is just not on my side... Ended up feeling feverish... and another bout of allergy attack, in the middle of the night which causes a bit of drama. Cause: Aspirin poisoning of severe toxicity level. Luckily it was just extreme swelling of my eyes and didn't go into an anaphylactic shock like it would in some cases.

What will be in store... in the next 17? I'll wait and see...

My dad passed away this morning, 15 Nov 2010 at around 2am... Due to cancer.

We have just finished a 12-hour chanting of Buddhist scripture at my house, for our dad.

My 2010 Expedition: The Chronicles

It was sometime in December, that I have decided to make it happen!
Make what happen? Scale Mount Kinabalu, raft at Padas and check out / do whatever else I can in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah!! Thanks to Jesmond who informed me of Huey Min, Jasmine and Mei Fun's intention...Yay, finally someone initiated. I was excited for sure, but also scared 'cakap tapi tak buat' scenario will happen. Normal la me.. overly anal about things. Hehe.

Fast forward 7 months later, after A LOT of planning, organization, efforts, sweats and tears, we finally made it!

On June 17th, a group of 26 pax made their way (separately) to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
We have people flying in with AirAsia, people flying in with MAS... from Kuala Lumpur, from Taiwan, from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur then to Kota Kinabalu... A whole lotsa stuffs going on at one time. Glad it all went well with the airport transfer.

Our 1st destination, check-in at Borneo Backpackers! Lovely place in my opinion. Totally recommended! Clean, safe, nice and friendly staff, located right smack at the city, cheap (RM 25 per night per person - dorm).. Aww :) Good enough. Thanks Julian Lim for the recommendation!

After checking into our rooms, chit chat and get-to-know everyone, we had our briefing session (on the itinerary) at Diddy's grandpa place. Lunch/tea was on the house. Thanks Diddy :)

Then some sight-seeing, picture-taking, camwhoring at the Waterfront area.

Started raining, rushed back to Borneo Backpackers and start packing for the upcoming activities - rafting, climbing and via ferrata :)

June 18th... 7.15am. It's time for RAFTING!!! Rise and shine early, had 2 piece of toast and hop into the van we go after a short briefing session by Alan Lam of Skyland Adventure (our agent).

Had 2 toilet pit-stops. One at the Crocker's Range. Nice view. Cold. Snapped lovely colourful pictures at the mini waterfall!

Had a 2 hour ++ ride to Tenom, to board an antique train to Panggi - the starting point.

Yay! Finally it's time for some action! Briefed by Edar of Wave Hunters. Funny instructor. Like to repeat the lines "My point is... " *chuckles*. Was also the guy in our van who briefed the gang (me, Winnie, Shino, Ming, Jesmond, Peter, Choong, Diddy & Shaun) on the day's itinerary.

After hours of rafting, and capsizing once (will upload video when ready), we reached the end point! A group shot to commemorate the event!

Another train ride... to Beaufort Town, followed by van ride back to Borneo Backpackers. Dinner at KFC / Burger King.

Slept early - tired. Required too... to ensure we get enough sleep and be prepared for tomorrow's early pick up (5 am!!) ala Day 1 of Mount Kinabalu climb.

June 19th, 2010...

Agenda of the day. Hike up Mount Kinabalu, via Mesilau Trail...

Destination? Pendant Hut at Laban Rata (3272.7 m).

Getting ready upon arrival at Mesilau gate. Introduced to our tour guide - Mr Roland; our climbing guides cum porters - Mr Arnold, Mauries, Bobby, etc!

And the journey begins....

1.5 km... 2 km... 2.5 km... 3 km... lunch break

4 km... 4.5 km... 5 km... Timpohon-Mesilau junction... Finally, LABAN RATA!!

I just realized... we didn't have any (almost none) pictures of the Pendant Hut! Probably everyone was too excited at the sight of it, totally forgotten to snap a picture of it. Not to mention, too shock with the number of steps on the staircase to go through before we reach the entrance... (-_-")

Reached at 4.50 pm! JUST 10 minutes before the cut-off time for Via Ferrata briefing.. Phew!! Thanks guys for pushing me up! It was much relief. Hot drinks were never so welcomed by me. Hehe.

Took a quick shower. Wait, correction... a quick 'towel down' 'coz it was too cold. The water were ice chilly! Worn whatever that's needed to be worn for the 2.30 am hike to summit; Low's Peak Circuit.

Then it's time for makan. Dinner was... umm, how should I put it? Too tired to eat.

Tried to sleep as early as possible. The pillow's so flat... I think my head felt flat by the time I woke up. Put jackets on top of it to make it more puffy = comfy to sleep on. Hehe. Poor Ming... was awake by someone's snoring from 11pm onwards. I manage to stay on bed till about ~1am.

June 20th, 2010... Yawns! Must wake up and prep for summit hike. The scariest part - the weather. So cold I can barely breathe as soon as I step outta Pendant Hut.

The early risers!

It's time! My pace was ok in the beginning... despite feeling giddy and having slight problems breathing in the cold air. I was slowly but surely following Jasmine's pace. Then when the bionic women speeds up, habis I. Lol. So sad... end up, getting by so slow.. I had to make several stops. The result; I failed to reach the peak's peak before sunrise, and I had to give up altogether, in taking pic with the infamous signboard because I wanna make it on time for Via Ferrata. Decisions decisions. So emo that time...

It may seem like nothing for some... but I was truly sad at the fact that I didn't make it to the peak's peak. Hmm.. prob another attempt in the future? Not in the next 1 year though. Phobia. Of the steps and rain! It was raining every day i'm in Sabah (-_-"), making it - the expedition all the more extreme and challenging.

Anyway.. .more pics! Of my 'byk susah' hike up to Low's Peak....

Highlight of the day! VIA FERRATA.

Finally, only 9 decided to go ahead. Mike, Alfred and Shino decided to continue their journey to the peak's peak, which is what I gave up on... over Via Ferrata. Sure hope I made the right decision. Great experience nevertheless. I shall have no regrets (need to keep telling myself that...!) LOL. After all... find out why at the end of the post!

We were divided into groups of 3... under 3 different instructors.

Sabrin (Instructor) - Jesmond, Ming, Jasmine
Jay (Instructor) - Choong, Su Fen, Peter
James (Instructor) - Shaun, Diddy and myself

All set, gears on, ready to go!

Spent the next 4-5 hours scaling the mountains, making our way down back to Pendant Hut. The journey involves Low's Peak's Circuit - Crazy Thick Jungle Trail (300 m) - Walk The Torq Circuit - Descend Summit Trail - Pendant Hut. Yes, it takes 4-5 freaking hours! And guess what, RAIN + WIND decided to greet us again... All was good... see the pics below...

.... Until it became colder and wetter as we descend instead of the opposite, which is usually the norm! Gave up taking photos, to avoid spoiling the camera too. We reached a point where we got so tired... mainly due to the weather and fatigue, that we find it's no longer fun.

The truth is, it was indeed fun, thrilling... totally recommended for any adrenaline junkies like me.. just that mentally and physically, we're tired. We've been awake since ~1am ++. In additional, my group got split from the other 2 groups lead by Sabrin & Jay... and a slow 5 or 6-men group in between us. (-_-") x infinity. So, it's normal for complaints to start pouring in... We just want to end it asap and get back to Pendant Hut.

We were frustrated...

I was personally afraid that the other 6 will reach Pendant Hut way before us and actually left to descend via Timpohon already because we were taking too long.

U know what I did/requested?

I asked for our instructor James to 'roger Pendant Hut' and ask if our friends are leaving us already? (Phones weren't working) Desperate le... It's no fun walking down the mount alone.

Imagine my relief when we were informed that they'll wait for us *cheers* Thank you peeps!

Thank you James for bearing with us... and the continuous encouragement to keep us going despite the harshest condition (we ran outta water supply too, mind you)

Finally... at 1300 hours, my VF group is back, safely, at Pendant Hut. All drenched and totally uncomfortable though. Can't stand the wet clothings.. Changed, and requested help from the porters to port all my wet clothings/gears down. Thank you porters! (if they ever chance upon my blog).

Next worry in mind? The journey down Mount Kinabalu via Timpohon. Didn't know what to expect. Just knew it will take hours before we get down to the headquarters... and we're running late.

Finally got moving by 1430 hours. Left Pendant Hut (Laban Rata). Peter, Su Fen, Jasmine and Choong practically zoomed down as fast as possible. Haha. Leaving behind Shaun, Diddy, Jesmond, Ming and myself to 'fend for ourselves'!! Just kidding.

Practically at this point, my leg was on auto-pilot mode (aka zombie mode). My legs were moving... taking one step at a time, down the Timpohon trail... but my mind ain't really thinking. Rain was pouring. Never felt so 'broken and numb' in my life... The rain was knocking me out senseless. Luckily I had an extra durable raincoat/poncho. Such a God-sent, luckily I went to Daiso the day before I left for this trip and spent RM 5 on this!

Exactly 4 hours later.. at 1830 hours. Finally, I see steps!! That leads to a building; the check-in point! I believe I let out a cry/scream of delight. Hahaha. So happy to say my number (007 by the way), reporting to the guy at the counter of sort, to confirm I have arrived at Timpohon gate!

Retrieved our stuffs from the porters. 1-2 hours bus ride back to Borneo Backpackers. Unpack, clean-up, bath... gathered at Texas Restaurant & Bar for dinner. Food looks good... but I just did not have the energy or appetite. Finished quarter of the meal only (so not me!)... Dinner's on Diddy again. Thanks man! Your mood must be darn good. Haha.

Pack till I fall asleep...

June 21st... The last day at KK. Spent my last few hours in the town at a MASSAGE PARLOUR! Since we couldn't make it for Poring Hot Springs or island hopping to Mamutik-Manukan-Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Haro everybody,

Hope all is well on your end. Firstly, as you all might have read, my daddy had passed away a week ago and I would like to say thank you for your messages. I read every one of them and am very appreciative. He had passed away due to a heart attack. I'm happy he got to watch one of my shows which was the MACC (Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedians) show back in October.

TimeOut KL Comedy Thursday (1st July)
Half the year has passed, thankfully today on the 1st of July we need not welcome this 2nd half with vuvuzelas. No game tonight, But seeing it is the 1st Thursday of the month, there will be comedy!

I hope you realise by now that TimeOut Comedy Thursday is the only consistent comedy show in KL right now. It happens every 1st Thursday of every month. I have been missing for a couple of months and those who have sent messages, dont worry I will be back, and back I will be...TONIGHT. Come watch if you're around.

Junji Delfino - Here I Am... Live! (15,16,17 July)
Junji is a very dear friend of mine and also one of Malaysia's top jazz singer. She sings alongside her husband David Gomes (one of Malaysia's top jazz keyboardist) and she has been so kind as to ask me to be a part of this celebration!

This show is in conjunction with her 50th birthday and she will be releasing an album as well. I will be there all nights, not sure what am I going to do but dont count on me singing okay. Probably an act or a 5-10 minute set. Regardless, please come for this as I am very sure you can appreciate the music. Link below.

You heard it here first. The show is going to be called Internal Affairs. I dont want to give away too much from this show yet but I will tell you it is 100% new material from the previous show (MACC CNY Edition). I've been working on the posters and it is almost completed, I cant wait to show it!

My Experience on Being Hospitalized & Thomas Cup 2010

May 12th, 2010... marks the first time I'm hospitalized (other than the period after I was born...).

For what? I was scheduled for a surgery at Tung Shin Hospital, Jalan Pudu.

What surgery? Haha, ain't gonna announce to the world here but no worries, it was medium-risked. Actually can consider minor also other than the fact that I need to undergo full anaesthesia. That was the scariest part for me 'coz I was so paranoid, I'm afraid I'll experience "Awake" ala Hayden Christensen in the same-titled movie - the one starring Jessica Alba too.

The feeling of being 'pushed' to the operating theatre (OT) was exactly how they portrayed in movies / drama series. The sight of lights on the ceiling... the sounds emitted from the EKG machine... my hand being IV-prepared (for the 'ubat bius' as well as should there be a need for drips / blood transfusion / etc)... wearing the robe (stark naked underneath)... the cold air... the somewhat-nonchalant attitude of docs and nurse, not because they don't care but 'coz it's such a routine for them... and the presence of interns... Hmm.

To be honest, the moments spent being on the 'bed', being pushed from my ward to the OT was haunting. I almost teared... Luckily I didn't 'coz I believe, if I did, it will not stop. Somemore my mom called and sis said "Good Luck"... LOL... Haha. Thank goodness I manage to stay strong and held back my tears...

Anyway, thank you Dr Ng KC (the one who performed the surgery) and Dr Albert Tan (the anaesthesiologist) for the constant assurance that everything will be all right :) I was surprised at my fast recovery despite feeling very drowsy when I first got out of the OT, sleeping so many hours on and off.

Hehe, I still remember... one of the nurse was telling me... when she put a gas mask over my face... "if you feel like sleeping, just go ahead". Poof... next thing I know.. I've passed out. The moment I woke up, I was so blur, I wasn't even sure if the procedure has been carried out. I wanted to ask the nurse standing by next to my bed "It's done??"... Haha, luckily I didn't. I would have looked / sounded so silly... Finally got a confirmation when I felt a slight pain. Painkillers were not prescribed though.. not needed anyway as the pain is short-lived. *thank you mode again*

Thanks to all who knew / find out about it.. and wished me well, as well as paid me a visit.
You know who you are... so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank Sis and Bro for taking leave to send me to the hospital.
Thanks Mom and Dad for checking on me with constant calls.
Thank you friends for dropping by (and watching Malaysia vs Denmark in Thomas Cup quarter finals in my ward/room), for the sms-es i received, for the msges i received online.. Your support and encouragement had definitely helped me overcome this phase. Yeah... I may look strong/fine.. but trust me when I tell you was "freakingly scared" at some points. Hehe (^_^b)

Finally... got discharged at about 12pm ++ on May 13th, and given another day off (MC) on May 14th.
It was really, a much needed rest.. physically and emotionally. It's now OVER :)

And I had a freaking nice day-off on the last day of MC... yes, despite Malaysia losing to China in the semi-finals, I had a good time at the stadium (though I consciously try not to jump around too much)! Me and friends were equipped with the Jalur Gemilang, binoculars ('coz we only gotten Upper Tier seats - RM 38), whistle and some noise-making gadget! Hehe. And of course, our trusty digicam / mobile phone to capture pictures!

The Health Factor

Since I'm working now, and more financially independent now (and also personal incidences and experiences with my loved ones)... I have decided to take a proactive approach towards my own health and well-being. I have since

1) Went for a more thorough blood test (that cost me RM 190 *(&@($*) and am awaiting results
2) Making half a year or yearly appointments with the dentist (entitled to max RM 150 claim)
3) Goes for monthly or bi-monthly facial wash (only RM 50 per session.. so cheap) since my only practiced routine is wash-exfoliate-tone-and-moisturize and i'm out in the sun a lot, and don't always remember my SPF and what-not...
4) Threading sessions at a nice parlour - Saluga in Bangsar (cheap too.. only RM 8 for eyebrow & upper lip)

but most importantly, thanks to my company who entitles it staff to go for specialist checks and treatment, I went for a check-up and found out that I need to undergo a surgery (medium risk) soon.. And I'm surprisingly, very calm about it. How weird am I? Anyway, just wish me luck and pray that all goes smoothly :)

For those who have always been delaying their medical check-up, DO IT NOW!

Assumptions & Judgements

Why is it that people like to assume and pass judgements?
If you're not in the situation, or even try to understand the situation, how would you know?
How could you actually understand or relate to the matter?

To certain parties out there...
Just because I try to lead life as happy as I can,
Trying to smile whenever I can,
Keeping my schedule tight and busy,
So that I don't spend time depressing and over thinking, getting paranoid,
Moving on with life whenever I can...
It doesn't mean my (our) battle is over.
It doesn't mean I'm all okay.
It doesn't mean the fight has ended...
It only means I'm trying to stay positive.

So please....
Do not assume I don't give a damn
Do not assume I don't care
Do not assume I don't know
I am just not very good in expressing my true emotions
Or I am trying not to be too affected by them

So again, I plead...
Don't pass judgements...
Don't think I don't know...
Don't think I don't give a damn 'coz I (we) hell give a damn to what's going on
And most important of all, I care.

Just because it's not recited all the time... it doesn't give you the right to judge.
Keep your thoughts to yourself.
Or make it known, get the message across, the right way.

Ponder for a bit,
Have you ever asked me how I was (we were) feeling?
How all these that's happening had affected me?
Go deep into trying to find out what's going on?
If your answers are, "not really", "never"... I rest my case.

2 Doctors A-Day…

Makes me weary and feel even sicker.

First Visit

Mediviron Clinic, Kuchai Lama

9.30am – 10.45am

Such a long queue… I think the Dr was busy performing/accessing full body check-up for several patients before me. Need to take blood and urine I guess.

Finally my turn, I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.

My diagnosis: Clear swelling on the inner left cheek/gum/jaw. If pain doesn’t fade, probably need to check with X-ray.

What happened: I got hit by a racquet during my weekly dose of badminton, my fave sport. Pain worsen by the day. But nothing biggy la I guess :) Just hope I don’t develop phobia playing badminton!

Medication: Anti-swelling pills & painkillers.

Second Visit

Clinic Ng, SS2, Petaling Jaya

1.30 pm or 2.00pm?? Accompanied by my dear colleague May Foong

What the crap?? Don’t know what’s in my lunch… I ordered Belacan Fried Rice, which I’ve tried before, in a restaurant I visit countless times since I started work.

Next thing I know, almost immediately after I finish my lunch, I felt a somewhat swollen / numb sensation on the right cheek-eye area. I asked my fellow colleague Icephy if my eyes are swollen… she was shocked at the sight.

This is at the slightly healed stage…

At that point, I knew exactly what happened = Allergic reaction… ONCE MORE! Gosh.. getting so immune already. Hmm…

Headed to the nearest clinic for my anti-inflammation jab. Got another 2 pack of medication as well.

A total of four bags of medicine in a day! (-_-“)

Cost me RM 47. Hopefully can claim! Haha.

Not So Inspiring News

Dad finished and done with, with his 10 sessions of radiotherapy.
Spoken to the doctor... Things ain't so much on the bright side.

It's confirmed... the cancer has spread to his bone which caused the initial extreme pain he experiences on his leg. Am currently prescribed morphine for pain management... Sigh.

What's even more heartbreaking... Chemotherapy is in the works. And that's also only if my dad's general health condition is strong enough in 3 weeks to come. If he's too weak, chemotherapy will not be considered as the effects are adverse. He needs to be strong enough to undergo the therapy...

Dad's already lethargic, not eating well, and suffer from nausea & vomiting... It's definitely gonna be tough. What am I to do.....

The Condition

Dad has been undergoing radiotherapy session… A couple of more sessions and then the effects/outcome will be accessed. These session cause dad to experience nausea… resulting in vomiting and lost of appetite. Sigh. Just hope dad will continue to have strong will and fight this! That’s of utmost importance…

How am I hanging on? By a thread... May not seem to show it… but well, always have been a good in hiding I guess. Guess I just had to find strength from within to face it and still live life. I do not wanna go down that road of negativity… again.

13th February 2010 (Nin 30)

Was sick – Down with severe stomach pain that made me pop painkillers like nobody’s business. Grimacing in pain on bed since the night before. Planned trip to Penang on Chor 1 dashed. Decided to stay home for my own good. Needed the rest anyway. Penang would be too hot, too hectic.

14th February 2010 (Chor 1)

It’s the new year! It’s also Valentine’s. Still in pain and not feeling my best but much better.
Mom and eldest sis depart for Penang at 10am.
Dad, bro and myself went to Brickfields (our late grandparents’ house) and had home-cooked lunch with Aunt Gock Kam (returned from Spore) and Uncle Wee (returned from Sydney).
Catch up on sleep, TV. Lotsa thinking.. which is well, good and bad.
Dinner time… mom’s not around, so no food. All shops are closed, so no food. Left fast food. Dad, bro & 2nd sis had KFC. I had Maggi mee! Sound sad? Ok la, not too bad. Hehe. The household ain’t functioning with the absence of me mom. Hehe.
After dinner… visit to Pei Shin’s place for rounds of gambling and bonding session with friends from MGSKL & La Salle :) Had a pleasant time till the wee hours.

15th February 2010 (Chor 2)

Shops are still closed. So food is still a problem (in terms of choice, added with the fact that we didn’t wanna cook).
Dad left for Tualang with close family friends.
Bro left for Kampar for a short CNY trip with his close friends.
Technically, HOME ALONE with my sis! Gosh… CNY in KL is pretty boring… ‘coz majority of my relatives are either in Penang or in Sydney. And this is the 1st year after so many years that I have spent it in KL. Totally clueless on what to do.
Had McDonalds for lunch. Thank God for fast food restaurants now I guess… though totally not my 1st choice.
Had more of ‘me’ time.
Then it’s planning of ‘the days to come and what to do’.
Dinner time… met up with Aunt Gock Kam & Uncle Wee once again. And headed to Mid Valley / Gardens along with sis for dinner and shopping. Had Thai :)

Back to work. Office is of course exceptionally quiet but pleasant. Got a few more ang paos! Yay.
Rest of the day was just spent on making sure all paperwork / e-mails are attended to.
Lunch with colleagues at Murni. Can afford to drive out during lunch hour at SS2 'coz everyone still not back in office! Hehe.
Dinner with sis, Uncle Wee, bro and Winnie @ Luck Kee Steamboat Restaurant.

19th February 2010 (Chor 6)

Report for work as usual.
Lunch at Kanna Curry House with colleagues.
Then got the news from my sis that dad was sent to hospital because of unbearable pain. Painkillers (tablet) didn't work. Was put in the observation ward and given jabs. On standby to fetch my parents home.
Debbie, Ming and Tian drop by my house for a visit.
Had dinner with them + Regina + Shu Yi + Wai Yip + Val + Zi at Chicken Hot Pot, Kuchai Lama.
Food was so-so for me. Sorry pals, it was a rush and I had to leave abruptly.
Picked my parents from the hospital at 10pm (yes, it was a long torturous wait for my parents).
Thought everything will be better.

20th February 2010 (Chor 7)

Got woken by mom in the middle of the night. ~4am to be exact. Why? Dad experienced pain again. Cannot walk properly and sleep due to the pain.
Re-sent him back to the ER @ UMMC with my mom.
Helped mom canceled the babysitting job.
Rearranged my schedule for the day/week.
Finally, Dad can leave the cold observation ward and be properly admitted for further checks, tests and diagnosis. FYI, it's spine and nerves related. Will provide details later...

A New Year, A New Me?

A new year...
Equals a new me?
Well, I'm gonna try.

The past year has been.. umm, eventful.
Good and bad. Easy at times, challenging most of the time.

Therefore, for this new year, I...

Wish for a better beginning, and equally good ending in everything I do.
Wish for better physical health... have been falling sick way too often (don't notice? well, pay more attention ;p).
Wish for better mental health... I've got bitten by the emo bug way too often last year, I am tired. I want more control...
Wish to be less hard on myself, take things / people easier.
Wish to exercise more... for well-being as well as superficial reasons. Haha.
Wish to cut all ties with all things bad and those that wears me down.
Wish to be more firm in saying 'no' and letting people know how I actually felt
Wish to not wear anymore masks and put up any facade just to please or protect others' feeling but hurting myself in the process. Be true to myself.
Wish to be more optimistic and happy-go-lucky on my outlook on life and the future it holds.
Wish to procrastinate less. Act fast after rationalizing, seize the opportunity.
Wish for people to be more punctual. Sometimes, it really could be a matter of life and death.
Wish for myself and others to keep their words and promises ‘coz well ‘cakap kosong’ and empty promises are bad and it hurts.
And last but not least, wish to be a better family member and friend to every single individual out there… :)

Lovin’ it thus far. Nice body design, nice colour, spacious enough. I’m glad I went with my choice when making a decision :) So far so good. An affordable car that meets the basic requirement – Exactly what I can afford (though I still cringe at the fact I’ve got a loan to pay for every month now)! Haha. And yeah, still haven’t get used to the fact that the signal light control is on the left while the screen wiper’s on the right! Hmm…

Travels / Outdoor Adventures

Ensure that company’s plan to have the annual trip in Vietnam be a reality.
Head down to Melaka for makan trip, minus the drama (see HERE).
Conquer Mount Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. And prob check out the world-class White Water Rafting at Padas too. Throw in Sabah Islands Hopping too if possible.
Leave footprints in Johor. Believe it or not, I have yet to explore Johor… (-_-“). Then again, I have not really checked out Perlis or Pahang either.
Make a trip to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Mission to go there failed miserably in 2009!
Try out paintball. Yes, of all extreme / outdoor adventures, I have yet to try pain(t)ball.
If my budget allows, an overseas trip – HK? Bali? Philippines? Or maybe to Krabi again?

Career-Wise

Be an expert in all things proteomics.
Great time & task management.
Ensure continuous great relationship with all colleagues.
Be a valuable asset to the growth and development of the company and to fellow colleagues.

Well-Being

Think happy, be happy, even when I feel like ‘killing myself’!
Procrastinate less, strive and move forward with life at all times.
Maintain a good exercise regime. Probably should really take up kickboxing (or other martial arts) classes if I can afford the monthly fees.
Start the habit of going for annual check-up. *I’m so gonna need some ‘pushin’ to do this*
Sleep early – bound to fail miserably many times.
Eat right – losing my appetite anyway nowadays so, should be possible to not overeat all thetime.
Pamper myself with me-time that does not necessarily equals to over-thinking ‘coz that could be torturous. Probably with spas, long baths or etc. But that usually means extra expenditure. Doomed!
Do more charity. Am calculating to see if I could sponsor a child for long term. Else, I’ll stick to my random work of volunteering till I can provide/support better.

My NYE & 2010

My New Year’s Eve (NYE) started with me rising (and shine??) at 7am ++. Got myself to the office (didn’t take leave) by 8am++. Prepped some work-related papers and before 9am, Yvonne’s here to pick me up. Melaka, here we come! Mind you, it’s for work, not some pleasure roadtrip.

Work-wise, things weren’t so ok. System delivered is not complete = Full training cannot be conducted. But the good news is, well, we get to shorten things up and return to KL earlier and ensure ourselves that we’ll be in time to celebrate and usher in 2010!

Just when I thought things are getting even better, I got hit by my usual ‘flu-like allergies’! I was experiencing runny-and-then-stuffy nose, sore throat, & bits of coughing. Took meds and effect really kicked in - I got so drowsy, I was dead sleepy. Manage to leave office earlier after am done with what’s necessary, but I have to go to Yin Ling’s! Then it was time to get some rest before I join my friends for ‘party-all-night-long’, so to speak. I wasn’t feeling my best at all, almost ffk the group and if I did, it would be the 3rd time for this group! Oopsie!

So, luckily I still manage to do the deed – reminder to self: Don’t Drink & Drive! Do not try this anywhere!

Wishlist 2010

I know… usually ppl have a Xmas Wishlist. But heck, I missed out on Xmas… and am down on cash, I’ll make one for 2010. Yup, my whole year’s to-buy/get list of some sort. I’ll throw in some justification… just to reason my wants/needs/future purchases. LOL. (yes, i’m bored and my mind’s on full drive)

Materials

A car
- Proton Saga BLM, Granite Grey’s my choice.
- Simple, affordable car with not-too-bad feedback from current users.
- I like its small sedan shape.
- It’s what I can afford right now so I ain’t gonna “wear a hat that’s too big for my head”.
A watch
- Something irony (or maybe with leather strap) and sophisticated. Yet still suitable for both casual and formal use.
A pair of shades
- With power lenses so that I do not need to keep switching back to my spectacles when I have the shades on.
A pair of peep-toe heels
- I need to find the right design and more importantly, the right size! Sigh, it’s difficult and I dread doing shoe shopping ‘coz my feet are so small! Size 3 – 5, depending on cuts/designs.
More travels
- Target destination:
  - Sabah – for outdoor adventures.
  - Vietnam – hopefully this plan for a company trip will be successfully executed.
  - Anywhere else in the world that I have yet to visit though I don’t mind revisiting South Korea, China, Thailand (Krabi, Haadyai, Bangkok, Phuket), Indonesia (Bandung & Jakarta), Singapore & most of Malaysia.
  - Ideal destination – Japan or something Western but this means more $$ needed. Prob can’t fulfill it in 2010 unless I’m heading to Australia which chances of getting sponsored is much higher. Haha.

Non-Materials

A career advancement
- To better perform at work, make myself useful and be a valued asset to the company.
A healthy self
- Experienced all sorta health-related problems the past few years. Heart-related, spine-related, hormone-related, joints-related, psychological, emotional, etc. Semua ada… gosh, I’m not as strong as I seemed to be.
- It’s time to rejuvenate and pamper myself, in a healthy way.
- Stick to my exercise regime (badminton & outdoor adventures).
- Proper diet, not skipped meals.
Have even better relationships with friends & family
- Surround myself with good souls.
- That’s always helpful, especially with the emo me.

- Cut myself some slack, let loose and enjoy life.
- Not to mean I wanna lose all control la.

Still Alive

Christmas 2009,
marks the 12th year I survived a horrible car crash (Xmas ‘97).

I am thankful that my life was spared on that very day. And for that, one of my resolutions for 2010 is to live my life to the fullest (if I have not already).

Details of the Accident

Date: 25.12.1997
Location: A crossroad @ Happy Garden near Jln Jiran (a traffic light has since been installed).
Car: Kancil, EZ850, Bunga Raya Red.

Not my actual car, but similar enough.

In the Car: Sis + Bro + Me.

Got Hit by: White Proton Saga that was speeding on a straight road, Red Kancil was attempting to turn right at the crossroad.

The Result: Kancil got hit at high speed, front passenger side (specifically, on my side), Kancil ended up lying on its right side (think turtle lying on its side, if that’s even possible, instead of totally ‘terbalik’).

Injuries: Surprisingly, and thankfully, ZERO injuries. Only shock and trauma.

Consequence: Afraid and had bouts of anxiety attack whenever am attempting to cross roads, for a year or two after the incident. Am ‘cured’ for a while now so that’s good :0)

Watched the movie with Winnie in TGV @ IU, last Thurs (17/12/09), 9.30pm.

I’ll keep this short & sweet…

Avatar = A Must Watch.

I enjoyed the movie (in 2D)… and I believe, 3D wouldn’t be bad too. So, so long you have good vision / don’t need to wear specs / wears contact lenses, go watch 3D wei! The graphics & CGI should be awesome! I wish I have my own “Ikran” now! Or even a “Toruk Mocta” =)

A word of advice though…

Don’t bother reading too much into the reviews, synopsis. The story is predictable in a way, but still interesting in its own.
Don’t bother about the logics and rationalism. It’s fiction/fantasy anyway.
Just watch and experience the wonders of film-making/imagination. And of course, the innocence of the movie :)

Squash-ed

I’m generally a big fan of any racquet game. My favourite – badminton. Tried tennis and table tennis too! So what’s left? Squash! (Wiki Link)

Never had a chance to actually try this game until just recently. To be exact, had a ‘teaser’ last 26/11/09 and my official 1st time just yesterday – 3/12/09.

Why?

Never had access to any squash courts nearby.
Don’t know anyone that actually play or very into squash.
Not offered in school.
No racquet.
Always find it technically more difficult or fast-paced than badminton, although I know for a fact that, badminton IS the fastest-paced racquet game, yes, even faster than tennis!
My reaction can be very slow ‘coz I’m lazy to move/run.

So thanks to my badminton kakiis TM and Jes, that invited me to join their weekly squash sessions, I finally decided (it took months for me to actually take action) to give squash a try. After all, I have been open to almost any other kinda sports/adventures, why not squash?? Plus, the game actually looked very cool – influenced by Nicol David’s (link) influence. She made squash looked very ‘yao yeng’ / bergaya!

Appreciate that they give me pointers on the game although I can really be the reluctant student! Oh yeah, thanks to Alwin too – the senpai! Glad I gave it a try though I cannot promise I’ll be as dedicated as I am to badminton =p Haha, probably can’t stand the fact too that I think I look extremely silly on court sometimes!

Anyway… why Squash-ed? Well, see picture below!

Arms got bruised for the silly me, kept accidentally swinging my racquet towards my arm. Reason? I’m so not used to swinging the whole arm to make a shot ‘coz I’m too used to using wrist-work (needed in badminton). The bruises made me looked as if I got manhandled or worse - abused! (-_-“)

What’s worst are… I got comments (from my colleagues) that all my ‘wounds/injuries’ looked very ‘wrong’ recently, as in may give people the wrong perception of me… ‘coz i have a hickey-like mark on my neck due to skin irritations and now I’ve got manhandled-like bruises on my arms! LOL but also (-_-“) x infinity!

Highlights

We scrapped many ‘tourist attractions’ for the sake of spending more time SHOPPING! LOL. We spend all the time on shopping (and eating), well, almost all if not all 5D4N. The only ‘tourist-y’ place we went was Floating Market, Snake Farm (watched the Snake Show), Elephant Sanctuary (only a brief visit since the gang decided not to spend 600 baht on elephant rides, etc) and River ‘Cruise’ (no, not the one that comes with expensive buffet dinner but the public transportation.. hehe).

List of attractions scrapped from our plans:
- Sirocco Bar, State Tower
- Grand Palace
- Emerald Buddha Temple
- Wat Arun
- Wat Phoa
- Elephant Sanctuary
- Patpong – famous for Thai Girls aka Tiger Show

We ate bugs! At Khao San Road – backpackers hunt! Nice place to hang out. Choice of bugs:

- Muk – cricket

Place to visit, for all your shopping needs:
- Platinum, MBK – wholesale price available for all sorta items from clothing, to accessories.
- Central World – for lingerie / undergarments. Wacoal there is so much more cheaper and they have very good designs too.
- Chatuchak aka JJ Weekend Market Suan Lum Night Market – must-visit. If not for the bargains available, just for the sight of seeing all sorta things under one-roof. Cute animals included. If only I could buy a dog back!

For your eating needs:
- Any road-side stalls are good enough for real good local Thai food.
- For something more commercial, try Yum Saap, Tom Som in Siam Square and a place by the river which I can’t recall it’s Thai name. Direct translation of the restaurant name would be something like See The Bridge, Eat The Wind. Magnificent view really… of the Penang-like bridge.

Oh yeah, another note, taxi fares in Bangkok are so much cheaper. Sometimes, even cheaper than the traditional Tuk Tuk! And guess what, all the cabs are Toyotas… Altis / Corolla to be exact! Picking up from where I left…

Took 3 days leave from work and headed to Bangkok, Thailand from Nov 5 – 9 with Shin Lu, Su-Lyn, Winnie & Kenny. First trip together for this gang =) More on this in future post(s) as I’m still awaiting pics from Winnie & Su-Lyn’s cam.

Immediately after I returned from Bangkok, another outstation biz trip is slated for me. This time around – Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from Nov 10 – 11. Finally, I get to set my foot in the “Negeri Di Bawah Bayu”. So gonna return to this land in the future… to check out all the Eco-Tourism packages available – Mount KK, Islands, Orang Utan Sanctuary… gosh, excited dy, since I have no chance to do anything except for sampling some local food and check out parts of the KK town.

Nov 19 – I got confirmed @ work!! Joined the company on Sept 1, so that’s ~3 months, great =) Definitely caught me by a surprise! I was so worried walking into the meeting room when my immediate supervisor asked to see me. In fact, I was already worried the day before, when she called to schedule the meeting. Not to mention, I was running late that day ‘coz my car was still in the workshop!

Nov 18 – Sent my car to the workshop once more. Dad found the problem when he was servicing the car. Sigh, and I had to go KL Convention Centre for BioMalaysia 2009 (Nov 16 – 19). Thanks Boon for helping me out – picking me up from the workshop and sending me back to KLCC for work. As much as I’m used to taking public transportation in KL, I always dread using one when I’m in Suria KLCC. So imagine my horror… just to get back home (I didn’t take a cab ‘coz it was peak hrs, it would cost me a bomb), I had to take the Putra LRT - StarLink LRT - Taxi. Thank God the ordeal lasted only 1-hour ish. Ordeal? Well, I don’t mind the fees and the interchanging of transportation.. but being sandwiched by humans, at peak hours… That’s tough! Bringing back all sorta memories from my years of taking public transportation back in high-school hey-days! Haha. Glad that car’s back.

Forgotten that on Mondays, SS2 have pasar malam… I parked my car at the wrong ‘area’ and ended up stranded in PJ after work till 11pm ++. Thank God Vien played badminton that day with me. She gave me a lift to and fro till it’s time for me to be able to retrieve my car and leave.
I didn’t have dinner on Monday… forgotten. Ended up buying 6 mini egg tarts at the pasar malam (while wasting my time away for my car to be ‘freed’) and guess what, I ended up leaving it on the “Lok Lok” truck when I had my ‘dinner’ there. Clumsy me!
Was on my way to work this morning as usual, suddenly my car almost came to a complete halt. Problems with my car’s breaking system! I was so nervous for a moment! Plus, I’m already stuck in a crazy jam… (-_-"). The car jerks everytime I break… still ok, what if my car cannot break?? Detoured and sent my car to my regular workshop in Chan Sow Lin… gosh, and spend close to half-a-day there. Took Emergency Leave.

M.A.C.C.’s 1st EGM @ PJ Live Arts, Jaya One

The show was a great success! Though am pretty disappointed I couldn’t catch the full line-up with Chi Ho (he was down with chicken pox) missing but well, the show must go on and so well it went on! Jenhan & Douglas Lim were totally in their element!

Mind you, there were lots of announcements asking us not to record but HEY!, Jenhan asked me to do him a favour by at least recording his part. SO.. when an uncle stopped me, gosh, I feel so ‘hurt’ and wanting to turn to him and tell him, I’m helping the comedians out… Ish ish! Of coz I didn’t and just nodded, secretly continuing the recording… LOL! Sad, kena ‘marah’ tak pasal-pasal!

Business Trips

Penang, the destination I was assigned to for my first outstation business trip. Headed there via AirAsia on 13th Oct with my senior/mentor Jason. Met up with another colleague, Kelvin who drove there after a ‘pit stop’ in Perak. Spent the next two days, 14th Oct & 15th Oct, assisting in the Proteomics 2D Workshop conducted by Jason @ USM’s Institut Perubatan & Pergigian Termaju (IPPT). Everything went well in terms of work-related assignments.

This trip gave me a chance to visit my relatives (thx Aunt Bonnie for all the arrangement) who resides in the island too. And when it comes to Penang, the next thing that comes to mind is the great food. Gosh, I miss the seafood and my grandma’s Pork Belly Soup (though I don’t eat any of the belly stuffs) and her Spicy Lala. YUMS! Anyway, need to cut down on the clams dy… Had them for 3 nights in a row! Cholestrol Overload!

Next up – Singapore for another Proteomics Workshop. This time around, instead of training others, I’ll be undergoing the training, and be trained by specialists from Bio-Rad. Will be flying down to the Island (yet another island??) this 20th Oct with another experienced colleague, Kayin. Gonna try to slot in time to meet up with my aunt and prob some other friends too in NUS / NTU (^_^) Hopefully I won’t be overly occupied on 21st & 22nd too so that I can check out the country/city that was always “so near yet so far” in my books! Singaporeans, or anyone that’s residing in Singapore right now, what are the ‘things to look out for’?? PM me!

Douglas Lim

Douglas Lim is now primarily a STAND-UP COMEDIAN. But due to his greed, he is also many things. For example, he is an ACTOR on both screen and stage (1957 – Hati Malaya, Los & Faun, TenTenTen, Kopitiam, Homecoming, P.Ramlee the Musical, Tunku the Musical, Broken Bridges, etc…). He is also a COMPOSER & LYRICIST for tv and stage (Kopitiam, Reality, Ghost, Cuci the Musical, etc…).

His stand-up comedy performances include “Eh, Got Free Ticket Ah?” at Actors Studio Bangsar, Comedy Club KL, Comedy Club Singapore, Lake Club Comedy Night, Harith Iskander’s Nationwide Tour, “The June 4^th Show” at No Black Tie and numeourous corporate events. Douglas Lim was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy at the Asian TV Awards. He lost to Gurmit Singh (Phua Chu Kang)!

Kuah Jenhan
Having performed on stage since secondary school, Kuah Jenhan is a natural in the performing arts scene. He began his career in stand-up Comedy in The Actors Studio Bangsar's Freeflow and went on to win the Bond Stand-up Comedy Competition in 2006.

Now an actor, emcee and fresh from his recent appearance for Comedy Club KL alongside international starts Paul Chowdhry and Garry Who, he has performed in countless skits and plays over the years, from school, to college and now in Malaysian theatre including Rose Rose I Love You, No Limits and Ismail - The Last Days. Dubbed as "The Funniest Gravy (Kuah) of Malaysia", he can be found regularly performing his mix of locally inspired comedy at Time Out KL's Comedy Thursday and other YCOM shows around the city.

Phoon Chi Ho
A comedian, actor, director and producer; the multitalented Chi Ho has been in performing arts since he discovered his love for it in high school and have directed and acted in several plays during his college life. Upon graduating, he chose to delve into theatre management by becoming the theatre supervisor of The Actors Studio Bangsar. He now is a member of the skit-based The ComeBackKings, written, acted and directed 15 webisodes for gua.com.my and launched a successful stand-up comedy career in 2008.

He now performs regularly around the Klang Valley, organising and performing in comedy shows for the Young Comedians of Malaysia (YCOM), a local comedy support group. Cheeky and very original, his stand-up routine sees him putting on a facade that is more familiar to his Chinese heritage.

why some people take things for granted, while those who actually cared, were never even given the chance to care?
why some people have all the answers, while others have to keep playing the guessing game?
why you can be so important to some, but never crossed the mind of others?

Test Climb @ Damai Caves

This would be my 1st official outdoor rock climbing activity… Thanks to Malcolm & Calvin (my colleagues at Skytrex) who just wouldn’t accept a “No” from me to skip this week’s outing ‘coz I complained about fatigue and lethargy since I’ve been overly active this whole week with various outings, meet-ups and of coz, my work.

So, thanks to the two fellas that kept calling or sending me text messages from 9.30am till about 11.00am, I’ve decided to not FFK and make my appearance at Centrepoint’s McD – the meeting point, and then ended up at Batu Caves.

Part of Damai Wall.

Was supposed to try out Nanyang Wall but detoured to Damai Wall after a change of plans. Met few other avid and experienced climbers – Karen, See Tho, Kenny, Ah Wai, Albert & Michele. Thanks for all the guidance! Esp to Karen & See Tho who personally provided me some gear, did the lead climb to prepare the route for me and Jasmine, both newbies, and most important of all, tips and advises.

Sorry though.. too bad, i didn’t make it all the way to the top. Arms gave up after several attempts to overcome a certain hurdle at 3/4 of the route. Shoot.. I should have pushed myself further although my arms ended up red, see pic below.

p/s: Thanks to my Skytrex boss, Julien Repellin, for providing me some very much needed gears as a farewell gift. I’ll make sure I make full use of these precious babies (^_^).

Reasons I Gave Myself

I need gears apt for working now that I’m no longer hanging around in the jungle.
I still need my sportswear ‘coz I still work part-time in a jungle environment.
I need retail therapy because…
- I feel the need to reward myself i.e. for my birthday, to accolade my graduation, etc.
- I am happy.
- I am sad.
- I got the extra bucks.
- I really liked the item.

My 1st Week At Work

… was surprisingly pleasant (^_^) although I’m still not used to waking up at ~6.30am, and leaving for work before ~7.30am (to avoid the traffic congestion). My work starts at 8.30am… at least for the next few weeks since I’m not out on assignments yet.

Hey, mind you… I used to have VERY flexible working hours. Haha.

Another surprise was, the morning congestion is actually not that bad compared to my previous experiences. The only thing I dread now is, the traffic congestion that I have to endure AFTER working hours. Boy, was it dreadful to take up to an hour just to get home from PJ to Happy Garden! Even more so when at times, I’m badly in need to stop for a toilet break and I can’t just because I’m stuck on some road! Experienced that just yesterday (-_-‘)

Here are some snapshots of my workstation. Simple and nice. And so far, workable. Enough storage space for my belongings and what-not.

Position: I’m positioned at a place where I can view the entire office, seated next to 3 other FAS – Field Application Specialists.

Oh yeah, I am officially known as Madeline now at my workplace ‘coz…

English names are generally easier to be pronounced and to be remembered although I’m aware of the fact that my English name is quite mouthful too.
I can’t use May ‘coz another colleague goes by that name already.
I can’t use Mayz ‘coz the pronunciation seems foreign to everyone. Yes, i’ve tried introducing myself as such.
I can’t even use my parents-given name May Szin ‘coz every time I say, “Hi, I’m May Szin”… They’ll generally go, “Huh, Amazing??”. Amazing indeed… prob that should be my new name. Different and definitely pops out and make ppl remember.
Prays I will get used to ppl calling me Madeline and actually respond when being called. Haha… Sometimes, I just tuned out and don’t answer to that name ‘coz the last time I really use it was back in kindergarten and early primary schooling years. The name issue.. nvr leaves me. Yet, i love the fact that i have quite a unique name.. mainly thanks to the odd spelling, courtesy of me mom! Thanx Ma!

What I’ve Done For The Past 1 Week (01.09.09 – 04.09.09):

Getting to know my team and remembering their names by of coz, associating their faces. Thank goodness I’m pretty good with faces and names.
Applied for an Alliance Bank account – work purposes.
Went to EPF and realized that I indeed already have an existing account. Never knew Guardian actually really opened an account for me back when I was 16 y/o and was part-timing with them during school break.
That also means I’m already registered with SOCSO. Yay!
Income Tax Number?? HR gonna settle it for me and determine if i’m actually taxable. LOL.
Tagged along with supervisor/colleagues on their rounds.
Learning and finding out more about my company, my scope of work, etc. Gosh, lotsa reading… So not used to it anymore after a break of 8 months from all things-Biotech.
Had lunch with colleagues all 4 days. Thank goodness, need not go through the whole “what should i do? who should i ask to go for lunch? eat alone?” thingy, YET. Haha. Ppl working in PJ area… i.e. ex-colleagues @ Skytrex, Tian, Pin Leng, Winnie, Lu, Jes… be prepared. ;p

Other Highlights / Pleasant Surprises:

Vibrant, young and friendly colleagues: The team that I’ll be working with, based on my observations, are quite close-knit so that’s a big Thumbs Up! To those who know me well, they’ll know how much I care about having “semangat” when working with a team. Everyone’s generally very friendly, nice and best of all accommodating. It is a nice feeling to be able to fit in and feel belonged. I hope I’ll be singing to the tune “I got a feeling… that tonight’s gonna be a good night” forever, with some minor adjustments to Black Eyed Peas’ lyrics.
Parking fees are claimable: I wasn’t aware of this when I accepted the job. Cost of parking at office, full day – RM 5.
A free laptop is given for work use: Another aspect that I wasn’t informed of… or prob I’m just not well-informed of the position I accepted and the usual perks (or not) it comes with.

21.08.2009 – The day I finally decided on joining my friends for a trip… My reason, it will prob do me more good than harm – a chance for an escapism.

22.08.2009 – 24.08.2009 – My escapism from reality, at a location located far and away from KL. The period where I tried to keep ‘out of touch’ from everyone… and focus on myself.

Just wanna say thanks to my friends – Vien, Athes, Galvin and Wai Yip for coming along/making this happen. Else, I would never be able to get out of the city alone.

Health Condition: Going Haywire

If I were to tell a doctor / tabib the following, what could possibly be the diagnosis??

Every time I eat something, I feel like puking or umm… crapping? It’s coming out either end. (gosh, i know i’m disgusting, bear with me)
I think I’m suffering from this condition –> lactose intolerance. Every consumption of dairy-based products gives me laxative effect.
I feel a tingly, somewhat numb sensation on both arms.
Something is seriously wrong with the area behind my left knee, down my calves. It gets tensed and I experience cramp-like feeling way too often. Could it be due to wearing very flat footwear?

Hmm… Will they even take me seriously?
Probably I should get my heart checked too… I have a feeling it could be due to abnormal blood circulation.

Fighter/Survivor, Am I?

Life always catches me when I least expect it….
Well, okay, in reality, I sorta anticipate it…
Arrgh, my gut feelings! Hate that it’s so accurate sometimes, wait, most of the times. So drama.

Disappointments, stress, frustrations, anger, sadness, headaches, heartaches… it’s part & parcel of life. When there are ‘UP’ moments, ‘DOWN’ moments will definitely tag along and show its ugly rear some day…

Had a tough time recently…
Sleep pattern got screwed again… and honestly, has been going on for almost 2 years already, on/off.

My mind’s messed up.
Thinking of too many issues that’s bothering me… my future, the decisions I’m about to make, my life going-ons… FML indeed sometimes.

Wish everything were simpler and straight forward.
Right now, am in the state of, quoting Rihanna’s Hatin’ In The Club, “… sad and blue”… Sigh. When is it gonna end?

Why the happy beginnings never last? Please bear with me… I know I’m talking in codes. Well, there are reasons of course. Unfortunately, I can never really be transparent. It’s a curse!

But worry not, I THINK/HOPE I still have that ounce of strength to persevere, stay strong and be a fighter/survivor! Just please, I wish upon the stars (and whatever things that I can wish upon on), that at least sometimes, things will come my way in a simpler, less complicating manner… Is that really too much to ask?

Crap…Tak mau further emo. I will stop here and strive for a better tomorrow.
